Obviously, Carolina Circle Mall had to go through some tough times. Why else would it have closed?
We're going to take a look at the mall's final years during the late '90s and the early '00s.
Up until about 1996, Carolina Circle Mall was doing a great job. People were coming for the Ice Rink, later the Carousel, the theater, and the stores.
Well, in the late 1990s, things were beginning to change for the worse.
1996 was the year things began to go really downhill. Piccadilly Cafeteria closed on July 31st and the Circle Six Theatres closed on October 31st.
Other businesses that closed this year included Camelot Music, Waldenbooks, and Radio Shack.
But that was just a bag of peanuts compared to the big removal that occured sometime around 1996. The beloved Carousel was removed and replaced with nothing but extra food court tables. It was a sad day indeed.
