One correction to a previous post: the record store at Carolina Circle Mall was Camelot Music, not Record Bar. Spent many good times at Carolina Circle prior to moving to Raleigh in 1985.

I picked blackberries at Textile Dairy, fished in Dr. Sykes pond, shopped and relaxed at The Mall, all of which far exceeds what is there now. My, my, how times do change!!

We closed the skateboard park because the liability insurance cost got so high. I was VP of management, leasing and marketing when CC open and until we sold it. After I left, I hired MWard manager, Jim Blue and then Ray Bradlely to manage it. But Billy can probably tell you more about the mall than I can....But if you want to know something about the early years, I try to give Billy a hand. Love your site and hope you're still doing well.

I grew up just down Mcknight Mill Rd but have been out of Greensboro for many years. When I heard that it had been torn down, I just couldn't believe it. Thanks for putting this site together!

I think I practically lived at CCM in the early- to mid-80s. I'd go there, hang out with my friends, occasionally try my hand at ice skating although I normally just landed on my posterior. Even after they took out the ice rink I still went there every chance I got. When you hung around there as long and as often as all of us seemed to do you could tell that the mall was dying. Store owners were leaving in droves and after a while people stopped coming.
It was heartbreaking to go to Montgomery Ward as they were closing and even more so when the mall was torn down. Several pieces of my youth were destroyed when they demolished the mall but I'll always have the memories.
Right after the Wal-Mart opened there I drove down there and actually drove around the building remembering what was here and what was there as if the mall was still standing. The mall might, physically, be gone but it'll never truly disappear.
